I could not agree more. Music has always been such a huge part of who I am. It speaks to me in so many different ways. My aunts told me that when I was a little girl, whenever "Killing Me Softly" by Roberta Flack would play, I would immediately burst into tears. Nothing about that fact has changed.
Music is poetry conveyed to us through lyrical sonnets. It does not get much more soulful than that. One day, I decided to begin curating what would become the soundtrack to my life. My until death do us part, ultimate mixed tape. I will release it with the first book I publish, which is currently in the works.
Music inspires me. It motivates me. It has the ability to take me to different places, as well as the power to evoke the memories of places and people I have experienced in this life and past lives. I have a playlist for every mood. I will now bestow these magical playlists upon you. 😁
I have listened to this playlist a lot over the past few weeks. I play it whenever I am feeling overwhelmed or blue. I am a Sesame Street kid. I watched it every single day. When the great Jim Henson created The Muppet Show, I showed up every Monday evening dressed to the nines in my snazzy but comfy Kermit and Miss Piggy pajamas. Where I would sit myself down as close to the television set as I could possibly get.
MUSIC
I was there opening weekend when the "Muppet Movie" was released, and soon after, I was the proud owner of the album soundtrack. I cannot tell you how many times I listened to that album. It brought me so much joy. It was definitely money well spent. Even now, when I hear the banjo intro start playing to "Rainbow Connection," a feeling of pure calm just settles over me. I feel like a giddy kid all over again. I blast it in my car as I am driving and sing as loud as I can. I still know all the words to all the songs on that album.
